» From the Executive Director
Welcome to our website. We are so very pleased to
be able to offer you this opportunity to learn about whom we are
and what we do. While you will find excellent information here,
I'd like to talk to you about the passion and spirit of this organization.
The name St. Matthew's House comes from the New Testament passage
Matthew 25. This passage speaks about loving and caring for the
poor. It reflects the idea that to show your faith and your love
of God, your actions of feeding the hungry, clothing the naked
and giving a home to the homeless are paramount to that end -
"Whatever you've done to the least of these, you've done to me."
At St. Matthew's House we follow this passion
every day - whether it is at our main facility, our transitional
housing or our outreach efforts for our community. But, along
with these basic, physical needs we strive to provide the most
essential need for the poor, and that is hope. To feed, clothe
and house a man, women or child will provide some relief, but
when they are hopeless their mind and spirit must be nourished
as well. Those who come to St. Matthew's House are hurt physically,
mentally and emotionally. Feeding their spirit, treating them
with respect and guiding them to a new life, we strive to break
the cycle of hunger and homelessness not with a quick fix with
undertones of reproach, but with education, guidance and most
especially, hope and love.
