» Wolfe Apartments
This transitional living complex opened in 2003
and was named for Catherine Wolfe who gifted St. Matthew's the
land it was built on. The Wolfe Apartments consist of four buildings
with 46 units located in Golden Gate. The facility provides a
drug-free, alcohol-free structured community with guidance and
support provided by an on-site staff. Twenty permanent units are
dedicated to the permanently disabled with rents adjusted to their
income. St. Matthew's House looks to our supporters to help subsidize
these units.
The Wolfe Apartments offers our main facilities
residents who graduate from our "Recovery Program" and homeless
in our community an opportunity to move from a hopeless situation
to self sufficiency, in an affordable and supportive place to
live. The need for affordable housing in our community is well
documented. Those trying to make a new beginning are often confronted
by overwhelming financial roadblocks. The Wolfe Apartments attempts
to help address this issue.
Those coming to the Wolfe Apartments must meet
all the requirements of SMH plus they must show the ability to
take on the responsibilities of their own home. They will have
the same structure as our shelter and are required to meet with
case managers to work on the issues that led to their homelessness.
An average stay at the non-permanent units is two years. We often
see these individuals and families go on to purchase their own
home and on a new life path that seemed unattainable to them when
they came to us.
